The Hohenzollern Bridge Over the Rhine River in Cologne, Germany

A friend from the United States visited me last summer 2010. We made some trips in some of the cities in Europe. One of the cities we visited was Cologne, the fourth largest city in Germany located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Here are some of the images I took from Köln, German word for Cologne. This is the Hohenzollern Bridge or Hohenzollernbrücke in Germany. It is a bridge crossing the river Rhine in this city. This bridge is only accessible to rail and pedestrian traffic. Before its destruction in 1945, it was both use as a railway and street bridge.

The total length of the Hohenzollern Bridge is 409.19 meters (1,342.5 ft).

You can take cruises on the river Rhine in Cologne. See one of the cruise boat here, it is located near the Hohenzollern Bridge.

The bridge reminds me of the Bayonne Bridge connecting New Jersey and Staten Island, NY though I haven't seen it for years. We used to go over it to access the Jersey Shore. It is currently the fourth longest steel arch bridge in the world, though it was the longest at the time it was completed. I think the asthetic of the arch bridge is quite beautiful as is the bridge you portray here. Yours is like an arch skipping stone… very pleasing!

This bridge brings back memories of two trips taken to the beautiful city of Cologne and of walks taken along the river-side eating ice-cream and looking across at this magnificent bridge.

Beautiful scenes of a beautiful place! The bridge spans look like a series of our Harbour Bridge in Sydney! And lovely play of shadows on the water and on the walkway!

What an impressive and beautiful bridge. And the pathway alone it reminds of my any walks I took alone the Thames in London. It is a lovely capture this week. genie

These types of bridges are much prettier than so many of the new concrete ones.
