Lovely Spring Time in Croatia’s Capital, Zagreb
It was the second day of our tour. Croatia’s capital was our next destination that day. From our 4-star hotel in Therme Tuhelj, it took the bus around 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach our next destination. I did not expect that Zagreb has also its own beauty.
Zagreb is has indeed its own charm, a vibrant city worth to see and experience. Its medieval city reminded me of my visit in Budapest, Vienna, Prague and other European cities.
Church of St. Mark in Zagreb. It is the parish church of old Zagreb located in St. Mark’s Square. Taken during my trip last spring 2013.
As the bus arrived in Zagreb, our tour guide was already waiting for us. This is the advantage of going with a group travel because you can have a tour guide to show you around. First, he showed us the city by bus. Our first stops was their famous cemetery known as the Mirogoj. The mortuary, the impressive and picturesque arcades with the church of Christ the King (architect H. Bollé, 1883-1914) make it one of the most impressive cemeteries in the world.
A fountain in one of the parks in Zagreb. The weather was perfect that time, sunny and not so cold.
I believed the highlight of our sightseeing tour was during our walk in the Upper Town or Gornji grad as known in Croatian language. It is the medieval core of the city. This is where you can find the Kaptol, the seat of the Bishop (where the imposing Cathedral now stands), and Gradec, the free town where tradesmen and artisans lived (proclaimed by King Bela of Hungary in the 12th century) merged in the 1770s to form the northern section of historic Zagreb.
I experienced a lot of sights in Zagreb. Not really everything but I am happy and contented that I saw a lot of its interesting sights. If given another chance to visit this lovely city, I will surely go back their again.
